Halloween Box Swap for Kids!
12 Sep
I’ve seen some great blog swaps set up this fall, but no Halloween-themed swaps for KIDS… so let’s start one of our own!
A box swap is a fun way to meet some new friends and let your kids in on the excitement of giving and receiving. You’ll get the name (and blog address) of the family you’re swapping with, and then over the next few weeks you’ll fill a small box with fun little items, home-made or store-bought (spending no more than $20) which you’ll mail by Saturday, October 9, giving the swap family plenty of time to receive and enjoy it before Halloween.
The way it works is pretty simple:
- Leave me a comment here saying you’d like to participate, before Friday, Sept. 24.
- I will send you a little questionnaire for you to return to me on or before Friday, Sept. 24. This will have basic information – your name and address, blog address, your kids’ ages and names, as well as questions about what your kids would be most excited to receive in a box of goodies, and whether there is anything they can’t have (allergies, food restrictions, etc.)
- On Saturday, Sept. 25, everyone will receive the name and information from her swap partner.
- You and your kids will have 2 weeks to fill and mail the box, getting it sent no later than Saturday, October 9. This way, most boxes will reach their destinations by mid-October, in plenty of time to enjoy the Halloween-themed goodies.
- On or before Oct. 31, you should make a little blog post showing what you got in your box (and how much your kids enjoyed it!) and you can link your post here, so we can all see the great treats.
Filling a swap box is always a joy for us. This box should be Halloween-themed, or Samhain- or harvest-themed, if you don’t celebrate Halloween itself. You can customize the items you choose for the number and ages of kids in the family you’re creating the box for. Be as creative and interesting as you like! Here are just a few ideas for what you could put in the box:
- Halloween stickers, crayons, coloring pages, playdough, cookie cutters, or other art supplies
- Halloween recipes, candies, sprinkles, cupcake liners, party picks, or other creative food items
- Halloween decorations, store-bought or homemade, like a poster or an unbreakable candle holder
- Halloween costumes, or costume details, like a pirate’s eye patch, a fancy hat, or a home-made fleece cape
- Halloween books, toys, card games – creative Halloween ideas you’d like to share – for example, the recipe and ingredients to make “slime”
Remember that gently used items are great! Do you have an old costume that your kids are too big for, but one of the kids in your swap family would fit in just fine? Send it along! Halloween books you’re done reading? Those are wonderful too. You can find plenty of great things in dollar stores or thrift stores too – just please don’t spend more than $20 total!
Handmade items can be made by the kids alone or with your help, especially if your kids are younger.
Here is the button for our swap:
You can copy the text from the box below the button; pasting that text into your blog post or sidebar will add the image and link it back to this page so all your best bloggy friends can sign up too. Please do take the time to share about this swap – the more, the merrier!
Let the swap begin!

You know that you can count us in. This will be so much fun!
Count us in.
Count us in and thanks for thinking of us!
I noticed Heather had issues with the button code too. When you paste it, make sure that all the quotes are regular quotes, rather than the slanted “smart” quotes before you save it.
We want in!!!
Yes! Count us in – it will be fun!
We would love to join in on the swap.

We got our swap box last week and I finally got a chance to blog about it.
