Gym Girl

Tonight was the last night of the regular-season preschool gymnastics class for GoGoGirl.  It was “Watch Night” and so parents (and friends) were allowed to go into the main room and sit on the bleachers to watch.  As usual, we brought a large cheering section!

GoGoGirl is very silly and bouncy at gymnastics, and has a hard time waiting patiently for her turn on the equipment, but she is pretty easily redirected by her coaches and she does her best to listen to them.  Coach Angie, in particular, took a shine to her this year and called her “My Little Bugaboo.”

The girls had a warm-up session with stretches like this one (“the table”) – after they’d held this pose for a while, they practiced giving each other “foot high fives.”  Then they went on the tumble track – a long, skinny trampoline – to practice jumps.  At the end of the tumble track is a big pit with foam blocks that the kids jump into.  We laughed and cheered (Cousin C. particularly raucously!) whenever it was GoGoGirl’s turn to jump in.  She did a cannonball, an arms-and-legs-wheeling helicopter jump, a pencil jump, an all-fours doggy jump, and several other wild variations.

Later, she walked on the high balance beam to get to the foam pit, and swung on the big rope to jump into the foam pit.  She was always moving and always happy.  I’m glad she’s had the fun of gymnastics this year.

At the end of class, the girls received certificates and medals in a little ceremony.  Then they had a mini party in the lobby, where GoGoGirl passed out the white-chocolate-and-sprinkle dipped pretzels we’d made this afternoon.  It was very sweet.
