Writing Games
Welcome to Writing Games! This is a brand new category on our blog. JediBoy is seven this year and nominally in second grade. In general, his reading ability outstrips his ability to put words to paper, but I don’t want to let his struggles with handwriting and spelling slow down his creative mind, so I am putting together a list of fun ideas for him to play with words and stories. For many of these Writing Games, I will be taking dictation or having him create an audio file, to help show him that handwriting and spelling are only some of the components of being A Writer.

Several days a week, I will post a quick writing prompt or idea for kids, and then share JediBoy’s response to that Writing Game. We would love it if you would share the idea with your kids and then post their responses (or a link to your own blog post about their responses) in the comments. Having you share with us would be a great way to create a virtual writer’s circle and draw inspiration from each other’s creativity!
I will also be gratefully accepting ideas for new prompts, so please consider helping on that end too. Most of my inspiration for this project comes from two sources: the book Writing Strands 1 and our very own PisecoSis, who is a writer and a teacher of, among other things, freshman composition.

Oh, my kids would love to take part, I’m sure! I’ll see what they can come up with after we get back from Grandma and Grandpa’s. Sounds like a fun project!

My son is in the same boat as yours, it sounds like. I will have to check back on your posts. Thanks for doing it!
Also you mentioned on The Homeschool Classroom that you have 500 board games. How do you store them all and keep track of what you have? Just curious because we have a lot and sometimes I forget what we have and end up with a second copy or don’t use it when we are studying that topic and then come across it months later.

Josh ( my son ) loves to write every night I’ll get I story going down the page e.g:
Sarah ( yes, he writes a lot about me, so cute) in her garden pick flower and water flower she go out to get more flower she come to garden and put flower in dirt she go to sleep in house.
That’s exactly how he wrote the story he gave to me tonight.
And he loves to get me to read him a book. Then he’ll point at the pictures and yeah.
