New Endings: The Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time there was an old sow with three little pigs.  When they were nearly grown up, she sent them off to seek their fortunes.
The first pig that went away met a man with a bundle of straw.  “Please, man,” the pig said, “give me some of that straw to build a house.”
The man did, and the little pig built himself a house of straw.
Soon, along came a wolf, who knocked at the door.
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in,” said the wolf.
“Okay!” answered the pig.

How would you finish the story?  Think about this: What happened next?  Was the wolf a mean and hungry wolf, or a friendly one?  Why did the pig let him in?  What happened to the straw house?  What happened to the other two pigs in the story?
(story start from Jack Kent’s Book of Nursery Tales)

JediBoy’s ending to this story…

“Little pig, little pig, let me come in,” said the wolf.
“Okay!” answered the pig.

The wolf comes in. Now, this wolf is a mean one. He thinks to himself, “This little pig is so nice, I guess I’ll be friends with him.” So they talked about a lot of stuff. They talked about what their favorite things to do are. They talked about what their hobbies are. They played with toys a little together. They went for a walk together. Then it was time for the wolf to go to his home. He heard his mother calling. He said, “See you tomorrow!” He went on his way.

Then the pig did his own thing. He went for a walk, picked some flowers, tied them to a bird’s leg and sent them to his mother.

He came to a field where he found one of his brothers. He said, “How are you doing?” The other one said, “Fine, how are you?” He said, “Fine.” The pigs look identical, except one has a blue bandanna, that’s the one in the straw house, and the one in the stick house has a red bandanna.

The pig with the blue bandanna said, “I just met a friendly wolf.” The brother pig, with the red bandanna, said, “I know that wolf. He is a mean one! He tricked me into thinking he is a friend, and then he tried to eat me! Then I went to my brother’s house, which is bricks, and I was safe there.”

The little pig with the blue bandanna said, “I think I’m going to go and build myself a brick house instead of a straw one. He could blow that house down. I think I’m going to call my mother after that.”

He goes back to where his house is, and he finds the friend wolf smiling at him. He starts to run. The wolf says, “Wait! Don’t run.” But the little pig runs so fast that he runs all the way to his brother pig’s brick house. That pig is a full-grown pig; he is the oldest.

Then, they see a tornado in the distance! Now the wolf sees the tornado too. He runs toward his house. This is very dangerous to do, because his house is behind the tornado. As he is running, the tornado collides with him and he is sucked into it.

He starts sucking air in, so that stuff will come into him, so that his house might come into him, so that he can be with his mother. It half-works: he sucks the little pigs in.

They spin and they spin until they land in their mother’s garden. Their mother has married a bull. The bull chases the wolf out of the garden and out of the property, and they live happily ever after. The End.

A few notes to help jog my own memory down the road…

JediBoy enjoyed dictating this story to me – I typed as he talked.  The final product wasn’t edited or changed in any way, and to me sounds exactly like the way he talks!  I’m not sure where the detail about tying flowers to the bird’s leg came from, but I like it.

He was reluctant at first to illustrate the story because he couldn’t make “perfect drawings” – his words.  We talked and talked about accepting imperfection (something that’s hard for him) and things like enjoying the process and practice making – well, better.  In the end, he quite enjoyed making the drawings and was pleased with the end result.  (Oh, and I really need to clean the scanner bed!)

  1. Annick Says:

    From Aidan:
The wolfe ate the pig because he was very hungry.

    From Conor:
the pig shut the door and didnt let the wolf in, so the wolf went the chimmney and then the pig set the chimmney on fire and the wolf was on fire.

I love this! Yes, I can hear JediBoy’s voice too, as I read the dictation. Ben also worries about his drawings not being “as good as” other kids’ drawings, and we talk about the same things: accepting imperfection, doing it because you enjoy it, process vs. product, and the fact that I CAN tell what the drawings are! :-)

    Josh’s Ending:

The pig looked out the window and locked the door and the wolf went away.

    He’s very cute.
