Leprechaun Ladders
This morning, JediBoy woke up to find an empty bucket and this note on his table:
The kids were thrilled to hunt for gold around the house… but don’t you know that Leprechaun gold can be a little tricky, and sometimes vanishes in the wrong light, so I’m pretty sure it will take them all week to fill the can!
We read some of our books about St. Patrick’s Day, and then the kids made Leprechaun Ladders. We’re hoping that giving the Leprechauns a place to frolic and play will keep them out of mischief!
We gathered our supplies – green yarn, green straws, a bucket of pre-cut foam shamrocks, a plastic yarn needle and some scissors.
JediBoy made the ladders by stringing shamrocks on the yarn, alternated with cuts of the straws. When the ladders got to be the size he wanted, we knotted the bottom and made a loop for hanging at the top.
BabyGirl practiced cutting the straws, then spent a long time playing with the shamrocks. We talked about little, medium and big as well as light, medium and dark green, and she placed them with deliberate randomness across the table.
Here is JediBoy with a ladder and a bridge:
Later, he added “challenges” to the tabletop – a plastic dragon and a big toy centipede, along with the plastic needle for the Leprechaun to use to defend himself.
