Yes, I caved. I went shopping on Black Friday. Early.
Yesterday, I was telling PisecoDad how a few of the Black Friday deals were tempting - nothing huge, but some good bargains on kids’ dvds and a few games. All the same, I didn’t want to deal with driving in that traffic, or parking in the hinterlands and hiking in. I flashed PisecoDad with the fluttering Bambi eyes (tm) and said, “I suppose I can’t convince you to drive me, huh?”
To my utter amazement, he was not only willing, but also seemed pretty jovial about the whole adventure.
I took him up on it, and at 4:45 the whole family woke up and bundled into the van. PisecoDad gave me door-to-door service, while he took the kids to the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through, read to them and played with JediBoy on his DS. I spent about 35 minutes in one big box store, and then about an hour in another (most of that time was standing in line). We came home around 7:00 so he could shower and get ready for work. The kids and I took a nap.
Later in the day, the kids and I ventured out to Big Box Store #3, visited PisecoDad at his office for lunch, then went to two more stores before coming home and crashing for Nap #2.
The deals were good, but the best part was JediBoy’s incredulous sense of adventure. “It’s so dark out, you’d think it was still night, but it’s really morning! I love this! All those other people are sleeping, and I’m going to get hot chocolate!” His crazed giggles echoed through the silent neighborhood. I loved it.

In other news, JediBoy has announced his Halloween costume for next year: he wants to be Thor, have a huge hammer, and live in Asgard.
