BabyGirl’s Rainbow Bags

Remember my temper tantrum last week, when the kids wouldn’t behave at the allergist? I told you I had a little inspiration for a project for BabyGirl, and here it is.

Nov 25 bags

I crocheted six little handbags in different colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Admire the rustic, amateur quality of the bags that proves they’re homemade, won’t you?  :)  I used the yarns I had on hand, so the yellow rug-yarn bag is big and chunky and the orange sock-yarn is slippery and thin. No two bags are identical in size or stitches, but they’re all pretty close, and the kids think they’re wonderful with their unique qualities. JediBoy has asked for a purse of his own, and I’m halfway through a larger one in green.

Once I had the six bags done, I added rainbow buttons on the outside (we need to buy two more for the red and purple bags), and then we hunted around the house for tiny things of appropriate colors. We wound up with a few slips of paper (with the color word written in English and Spanish), a Lego, a die, a fun foam star, a link from baby toys, and a Little People animal. I think this weekend I’ll whip up a few bracelets from the matching yarns, and maybe make a few little felt shapes too.

Nov 25 bags green

I only presented the filled bags to BabyGirl last night, and so far she enjoys carrying them around and peeking at the contents. She loves to put things in bags and carry around bags of important stuff, so she loves her new bags.

I’m hoping that they find a great new role in her imaginative life as well as working as a little help for learning colors, sorting colors, matching colors, and so on. Since I’ve been gathering inspiration from 1+1+1=1 and several other great “tot” blogs, I thought I’d link this project up with the Tools for Tots post so you can find more inspiration too.
