Friday Sickies

First, the update on BabyGirl. Last night after dinner she was still limping, so PisecoDad decided to take her to the walk-in clinic just to be safe. They did an x-ray: nothing’s broken, so the doctor said it’s probably just a sprained ankle, considering the way that she was walking (she wouldn’t walk on that foot flat, only on tiptoe).

The funniest part is that the doctor also has a 22-month-old daughter, and she did THE EXACT SAME THING on their backyard slide the night before! So he said he had spent a lot of time watching how his daughter was walking, trying to be sure of that diagnosis, so as soon as he saw BabyGirl he knew it was the same thing. How weird is that?

Anyway, he said there’s nothing much you can do for a toddler with a sprained ankle. Trying to enforce keeping her off it will just make her mad, though we can encourage her in sit-down activities as much as possible. There’s no swelling or bruising, which is good because she’d probably just pull off an ace bandage. The doctor said to give her Tylenol if the sprain seems to bother her.

She was limping much less today but I still wanted to keep her off her feet. Those adorable little feet.

Then there’s JediBoy, who woke up with a cold, stuffy and grumpy and miserable. And PisecoMom (uh-huh, that’s me) who is having hormone-related migraines, and sick-child-related migraines!

We declared this gray and rainy day a day of bedschooling. We read and cuddled and practiced our Spanish in bed with Plaza Sesamo dvds, we did a little math and then Mom’s Magic made a new movie appear. (Monster House, which he had been coveting for almost a year since first seeing the trailers. This one really earns its PG rating with a quite scary scene where the boy is in bed and the shadow of the house across the street comes into his room, turns into a hand and tries to grab him. I was freaked out. I kept asking JediBoy if he was okay with it, and he kept saying he was. He watched it two more times during the afternoon and I think it got less scary for him with the repeated viewings. But still. Caveat emptor.) I kept sorting clothes - I’m making some headway, I think - and checking in on my two little bedrest patients. How was your Friday?

When Gabe was about her age. He hurt his ankle to (jumping of the couch into a mountain of pillows) and it was not easy trying to get him to stay off from it. I hope that she is doing better now. I hope all of you are feeling better.

Andrew sprained his ankle about 6 months ago. I felt SO bad. We’re still not sure how he did it. I kept him off his feet as much as possible for about 3 days. Lots of TV & reading. Also with the sneakers–I let him wear his sneakers pretty much the whole time, even in the house which we don’t normally do.

Again with the quick diagnosis here. Our pediatrician called it the minute she saw him walk. She says it’s very common at that age. She said Motrin for him, helps any inflammation or swelling if it happens she said. Andrew never had any swelling either, and was back to his normal self in about 3 or 4 days.

Hope she’s feeling better soon!
