Celebration

This afternoon we were honored to be invited to the baptism of one of our friends (he’s just six weeks younger than BabyGirl).

Here are the kids dressed for the occasion… well, JediBoy was dressed for t-ball because the baptism was at 5 at a church about 20 minutes away from the t-ball game, which started at 6!

And here’s one shot from the ceremony - D’s grandfather (a new deacon) presenting him - his mom C and sister R watching.

The baptismal font at this church was large and totally cool, and absolutely irresistible to D, who just wanted to do a full-body baptism already!

The ceremony was sweet and simple, and timed so that D’s other grandmother, from Mali, could be there.

What a joyful moment! :-)

The outfits on the whole family were beautiful. C, her husband, and all 3 kids looked BEEEautiful. I think the only part of organized, symbolism-filled religion that I really miss are these ceremonies that allow folks to really dress up all spiffy and be “special” in front of friends and families.

Thus says the woman who has never had a fancy ceremony, not even an actual wedding.
