It’s become completely predictable: the moment I come down the stairs from putting BabyGirl down for a nap, JediBoy is there. “Can we play a game?”
I’ve had so much fun in the past couple of months playing games with him that we weren’t able to play before he could read. Our favorite from the past week has been Taboo Junior. (The latest version is called Taboo for Kids.)

If you haven’t played Taboo before, the idea is simple: you have to get your team to guess the word on the top of your card without saying any of the taboo words listed below. For example, you might draw the card that says FISH, so you have to get your team to say fish, but you can’t say ocean, swim, or water. “It’s an animal that lives in the sea, maybe a guppy or a flounder.”
I love watching JediBoy give clues. It’s obvious to me that he’s having to think hard about the words, and stretch his brain in a different direction in order to get me to guess without saying the most obvious words - and yet, he’s having so much fun. He’s a great guesser, too. Here he is, getting me to guess ALLOWANCE without saying money, green or spend.
PisecoDad and I played so many hours of two-man Taboo in college and when we were first married that now none of our friends will play with us if we’re on a team together! It’s one of our all-time favorites. We’re both having fun playing the junior version with JediBoy and I’m glad he loves it as much as we do.
