Birdwatching and Making Snowmen

Today we had beautiful weather - it was sunny and warm, but we still had a layer of snow. It was great for birdwatching in the morning and snowman-making in the afternoon.

We started out after breakfast sitting on the couch, talking through subtraction facts with -9. It took about five minutes of talking about it, thinking about it, and trying it out with MUS blocks, but I saw it click in JediBoy’s eyes. We were tossing some problems back and forth when he noticed the birds at our feeders. And with a smile like this one, how can you not be caught up in the excitement?

First we saw the quick little chickadees, who love the peanut butter and birdseed pine cones.

Then we saw the patient doves, waiting in the trees for their turn at the feeders.

And we watched the flighty flickers (two females and one male) go up and down the trees and fly back and forth to our suet block.

Even BabyGirl loves watching the birds.

In the afternoon, we went outside to play in the snow. This was my absolute FAVORITE kind of snow day! Warm enough that I was out in just a heavy sweater, warm enough that the kids could play for a long time without getting cold, warm enough that the snow became wet and sticky and good for snowmen. The sun felt so good. I hope you had as much fun today as we did.
