Last week I didn’t get the chance to switch out our book basket from the Africa books. JediBoy was sick in the early part of the week, and still enjoying tales from Madiba Magic. We went on then to a big stack of the ever-comforting Richard Scarry, and started reading about the Ancient Romans in Story of the World Volume 2.
But today I had to pull out our small stack of Valentine’s books - I think we have 9, a total completely dwarfed by our Christmas and Halloween collections!
Olive, My Love by J. Otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh is a fun and zany book by the creators of Olive, The Other Reindeer.
It’s Valentine’s Day by Jack Prelutsky is a collection of poems for beginning readers; a few are sentimental but most are down-to-earth funny.

Valentine Foxes by Clyde and Wendy Watson is a picture book story of a family of foxes creating Valentine love and surprises in their home; this is by the creators of Father Fox’s Penny Rhymes, one of my childhood favorites.
Where Is Baby’s Valentine? by Karen Katz is a lift-the-flap board book by the author of Where Is Baby’s Belly Button?
The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond is a sweet little story about a girl pig who takes advantage of the unusual precipitation.
Mouse’s First Valentine by Lauren Thompson and Buket Erdogan is a mouse’s-eye-view tale of making a Valentine; there are a series of these including Mouse’s First Halloween that seem to appeal to kids who take in the details first and then get a picture of the whole.

We also have a few “character” books - Chelli, Be Mine!, Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweet Babboo! and Dora Loves Boots.
Do you have any favorite Valentine’s books?
