It's nothing short of magical when they take off with reading because they simply love it, not because they are being forced to read. Ben tells me things all the time that he learned from reading- things I didn't know he knew! This is why I don't mind that he has a mountain of books on the other bed in his room (which is right against his bed). I think that, like me, he finds books to be such a comforting presence.
