PisecoDad went back to work this morning! I was nervous about being alone with the kids all day, but everything went very well. We were able to spend 15-20 minute stretches of time where BabyGirl would cruise around the living room, checking out piles of toys, and JediBoy and I could build a Lego creation or play a board game, cut apart a magazine or read a book. She was especially happy with her new toys from Aunt Robin - in particular a Tickle-Me Cookie Monster and Fisher-Price talking, singing musical cookie tray puzzle toy. (Can you tell I lost the box? I’m pretty sure that’s not the marketing name…)

Breakfast and lunch have become extended affairs, but BabyGirl (whom we also affectionately call “Pit” as in Bottomless…) is very content to sit in the highchair for an hour, if provided with enough varieties of food. That gives me enough time to comfortably feed her, JediBoy and myself and do a little clean-up as well. At lunch time, JediBoy and I made half a batch of Warm Cornstarch Fingerpaint (from the MaryAnn Kohl book First Art) and they painted together. Naturally, BabyGirl ate a little, but since it’s made from cornstarch, water and food coloring, that was totally safe exploration!
Dissolve 1/2 cup cornstarch into 1/4 cup cold water and set it aside. Boil 1 1/2 cups water. Remove the pan from the heat and add the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly. Return to the heat and boil for about one minute, until clear and thick. Add food coloring. Allow the paint to cool, then paint with the warm paint.
