For the last two - or is it three? - days, besides the trip to the “marble factory,” JediBoy has been obsessed with playing the Dora and Diego games at Nick Jr. He especially likes the Diego adventures where you are trying to earn bones to build dinosaurs. We’ve been playing them together some of the time, but mostly he just likes to have me in the room while he plays. He really likes the dinosaur facts he’s picking up and the ability to turn the x-ray on or off.
Today he was outside riding his bike (and, I think, digging a hole next to the house) when the mail came. He was so disappointed that there weren’t any magazines for him. (He gets a good selection including Your Big Backyard and Ranger Rick, National Geographic and NG Kids.) He said: I was hoping there would be a magazine because I really wanted to learn something new about animals. I love this new kick - not only is he interested in learning new facts about animals (the elephant is the largest land animal; the giraffe is the tallest) but he is also aware that he is interested in learning about animals. It’s pretty cool. He asks things all day long - today’s forty-five minute birdfeeder discussion spent a lot of time on predator-prey relationships (would a squirrel eat a bird if he caught one? can a hawk eat a crow? a chickadee wouldn’t eat a chipping sparrow because they’re the same size.) and male and female colorations, since today we had a cardinal pair and a small flock of house finches.
After his late-afternoon dentist appointment, we took him out for a “doctor’s day present” - a long standing tradition in our family - and he chose a new set of STAR WORZ GIES. We even went out to dinner and then came home to play Star Wars together with the new bounty hunters. We played a game of Enchanted Forest and now it’s time for bed.
