If the post title didn’t scare you away, you’re obviously ready to hear me vent!
JediBoy and I had a delightful day on Friday. Even though there was snow brewing (and I’m a Major Wimp when it comes to driving in snow), we went to the mall. We stopped by the portrait studio to see his very favorite photographer and do a silly, fun photo shoot of JediBoy in his “farmer clothes” - denim overalls with a red shirt and a red cowboy/farmer hat. He loves getting his picture taken there, and for the $9.99 package I can’t deny him the joy.
He was in his “farmer clothes” because the mall was hosting Farm Days. We met up with some friends and had a good time seeing all kinds of animals - turkeys, ducks, chickens, newly hatched chicks, rabbits, alpacas, cows. The thing he was most looking forward to was seeing sheep shearing! We saw it last year and it made a big impression, apparently.
That was the good part. Through the afternoon, snow started to fall and JediBoy started to sniffle and cough. He developed an awful cold that kept him - and therefore me - from sleeping much at all Friday night. We brought him into the big bed around 2:30 and watched movies until 6:00. He just couldn’t sleep flat and even with some cough medicine, the coughing kept him awake. We finally got back to sleep around 7:30 Saturday morning and slept til 11:00. Saturday night we were asleep around 10:30, up briefly at 2:30 and watching movies at 5:30.
You can imagine that our whole weekend felt out of kilter. We were all tired and groggy. We watched a LOT of movies - luckily for us, when St. Patrick left his rainbow basket at our house he left Shrek 2, which PisecoDad and I had never seen, so at least we had that to keep us happy.
JediBoy and I are not quite back to normal - just tired and groggy, though last night we finally slept through.
Yesterday we also found one of our hermit crabs had died - last April, JediBoy’s Grandma brought him two crabs from South Carolina. He named them Sport and Tennessee. Sport passed away after something like a month, but Tennessee was still going. She had outlasted Elf and Kenny, two pet store hermies, and had welcomed Chocolate and Dragon. We were attached to her and upset to find her gone.
One of the two remaining crabs, Dragon, was buried in the tank, possibly molting, leaving Chocolate with no companions. So we made a groggy outing (it was 5:30 but felt like midnight) to the pet store last night and came home with Good Heart and Sweetie Pie. We also bought a new, smaller tank so the crabs can be on the same shelf as the mice - so JediBoy can see them more easily and take over more of their care. (The crabs had been up on a higher dresser that he could barely see and not reach into.)
This morning, we heard many sirens and looked down the hill to see fire trucks gathering near the sub shop. JediBoy was interested so we bundled up and walked down to see what was going on. We did get to see the guys ride up in the cherry picker and inspect the roof, but things wound down very quickly so we’re guessing it was a small fire in the kitchen, maybe electrical since the truck came from the electric company. (But not, as JediBoy pointed out, from The Electric Company.)
