Biking under Disco Lights

Many schools in our area were closed today, so when I came upstairs from doing laundry and found a message from a friend asking if we wanted to go to the local roller rink’s indoor biking time, JediBoy and I jumped at the chance.  We used to go often when he and his friends were younger (before most of his friends started preschool) - they have the roller rink open for two hours for toddlers and preschoolers to come in and bring ride-on toys, bikes, skates, whatever.  It is usually fun and especially wonderful when everything else is snowed under.  JediBoy was thrilled with the chance to ride his bike for a couple hours and play with his friends.  I spent most of my time with one of our friends who will be 2 in May - he’s got a slower-to-warm-up disposition, just like JediBoy, and he was thrilled to hold my hand and walk with me as the other kids went zipping past, and then to stand under the various disco balls and watch the lights spin around us.  It was a great way to spend the morning.

We did a few errands in the early afternoon - mailing a package and doing a little shopping, including an impulse stop at Bath & Body Works, which is one of JediBoy’s favorite stores.  He would spend hours in there if I had the patience to match his.  He likes to stop and smell every single sample!  We were drawn in by the posters promising the new Honeysuckle fragrance - after they discontinued honeysuckle years ago I kept one lone bottle of the shower gel tucked away for special occasions.  I finally used it up when I was pregnant, so I was thrilled to find honeysuckle again!  I’d been carrying a Christmas gift card in my wallet for just such an impulse purchase.

We took it easy when we got back home - JediBoy watched two Leap Frog videos and I finished reading The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
