Exploring all kinds of new things online since getting our new computer! Tonight we found an mp3 version of my mother’s favorite childhood record, Bozo and the Birds. The website has posted weekly children’s recordings - mp3 versions of records - since the beginning of 2005. JediBoy and I were enjoying checking things out, and planning to download and burn some (all completely free & legal for personal use!) since he loves to listen to stories on tape.
We also happened upon a site with mp3s of Bob Munsch books in mp3 format, read by Munsch himself. We’ve listened to Stephanie’s Ponytail and Thomas’ Snowsuit so far.
At the moment, JediBoy is occupying himself by wrapping presents for me. We’d been doing some Valentine’s gift wrapping and he got into the swing of things. He’s wrapped and given me (and insisted I open immediately) his General Grievous figure, two crayons, and a slice of pretend bread.
It’s funny how the homeschooling parent’s mind works on a different track from most. Even though I am an unschooler at heart, and don’t want to require certain subjects of my son at certain times, I am constantly aware of what My Responsibilities are as far as the state is concerned, and I find myself thinking at the back of my mind - gee, this is handicrafts, a very useful life skill as well as developmentally appropriate use of scissors and tape…. I should think that will help me through the red tape of Officially Homeschooling my son, since I can translate most any activity into an Educationally Appropriate Passtime!
The handicrafts thought popped into my head probably extra vigorously tonight because I’ve been doing some thinking about the CM idea of handicrafts, and since he’s been asking to learn how to sew, one of his Valentine presents is (shh! don’t tell) a begin-to-sew set from the craft store, simple felt shapes with pre-punched holes and a plastic needle. I’ve been browsing some websites about what Mason considered handicrafts, and what some non-frustrating ideas would be for JediBoy to try. As always, ideas are appreciated!
